In April 2021, the works carried out under the task: “Implementation of roof renovation and adaptation works in the attic, related to the presence of bats in the church in Rzepnik (Former Orthodox Church of St. Paraskeva)”.

The Regional Directorate for Environmental Protection in Rzeszów, as the beneficiary of the project, obtained funds for this purpose, thanks to which, within the framework of the task renovation and adaptation works were performed in the above mentioned facility.

The works included, in particular:

  1. CONSTRUCTION AND RENOVATION WORKS:

1) renovation of the roof framework and replacement of damaged wooden elements and

construction of a new roofing made of titanium-zinc sheet for the gable roof

over the chancel,

2) renovation of the roof framework and replacement of damaged wooden elements and

construction of a new roofing made of titanium-zinc sheet for

the gable roofs over the sacristy on the southern and northern side,

3) renovation of the roof framework and replacement of damaged wooden elements and

construction of a new roofing made of titanium-zinc sheet for the semicircular penthouse roof

over the apse on the eastern side,

4) construction of new gutters and rainwater pipes,

5) carrying out the necessary repairs of the roofing, new flashings

and masonry defects on roofs previously renovated (transepts, nave,

narthex

6) execution of a lightning protection system.

  1. ADAPTATION WORKS IN THE ATTICS:

1) execution of horizontal platforms / guano / for bats under the roof tops

over the narthex and the roof over the chancel,

2) execution of roof hatches with inlets for bats in the roof slopes

over the narthex, over the chancel, over the sacristy and over the apse on the southern side,

3) execution of bat inlets in the gable wall of the gable roof over

the chancel and in the gable wall of the gable roof above the transept on the northern side

4) making an inlet for bats in one onion dome from the forest side in the recess

of round dome outer wall,

5) installing segmentally double-side corrugated ash boards at the top of the roof, between rafters / over the narthex / over the roof of the chance,

6) construction of a wooden access walkway and a wooden staircase over the vaulted ceiling above the narthex, leading to the bat guano platform,

7) making a bat hole in the gable wall between the attic over

the apse and the attic over the chancel,

8) execution of inlets and passages for bats under the wall flashings

The gable wall over the entrance to the church, the gable wall of the roof over

the transept on the north side and the gable wall of the roof over the chancel.

 

The contractor for the task, selected following an open tender, was a consortium:

The value of the task is PLN 248 800.80

 

The task was implemented by the Regional Directorate for Environmental Protection in Rzeszów within the project entitled “Protection of endangered bat species within the Natura 2000 network in the Podkarpackie Voivodeship”.

As part of the project, a bat attracting device reproducing the echolocation and social signals of these animals in a wide frequency spectrum from 2 kHz to min. 120 kHz. The device will contain social sounds recordings and echolocation signals of the greater mouse-eared bat recorded in spring, summer and autumn in this species sites located in the nearest vicinity of Rzepnik.
